Irregular Periods (Abnormal Menstruation)<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The menstrual cycle is calculated based on the time between the first days of two consecutive menstrual periods. A normal menstrual period lasts on average three to seven days, every twenty to thirty-five days. In menstrual cycles that deviate from this schedule, or in patients who do not menstruate for more than forty days, the possibility of irregular periods should be investigated. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Causes of Irregular Periods<\/h2><\/div>\n\n\n\n

1. Anatomical <\/h3>

Anatomically, endometrial polyps, uterine fibroids<\/a>, tumors in the uterus, certain ovarian cysts, or pathologies in the cervix can cause irregularities. These possibilities are first assessed during examinations.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

2. Hormonal<\/h3>

In addition to female hormones, changes in thyroid and hormones related to the mammary gland, getting external hormones as supplements or certain medications can trigger menstrual irregularities as well. <\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

3. External Factors<\/h3>

Stress, rapid weight gain or loss, heavy training, drastic changes in lifestyle, grief, and sorrow due to sudden losses are also among the external factors that cause irregular periods.<\/p><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/header>\n\n\n\n

During Examination<\/h4><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

We first listen to the detailed history of the patient. A vaginal examination is performed to observe anatomical elements, especially the cervix. The uterus and ovaries are then examined by ultrasound. If necessary, hormone tests and some tests are used to confirm the diagnosis. All these examinations and tests are performed in our clinic. Hormone tests are usually done between the third and fifth day of menstruation. Consulting a doctor during these days saves time for hormone tests to be performed on the same day, and patients who have not had their period for more than forty days are advised to consult a doctor immediately.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Treatment Process<\/h4><\/div><\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

The underlying causes determine the type of treatment for menstrual irregularities. We usually need surgical correction for menstrual irregularities due to anatomical reasons. In hormonal disorders, medical treatment methods are considered in the foreground. For lifestyle-related cycle irregularities, medical supplements and supportive therapies are applied to improve the patient’s living conditions.
